RIM BlackBerry Style Video Transcript

-I'm Nicole Lee, senior associate editor for cnet.com, and this is a first look at the RIM Blackberry Style for Sprint. It is Blackberry's first ever smartphone with both a clamshell form factor and a full QWERTY keyboard. On the front here is a 2-inch color external display with the usual date, time, and caller ID information. On the back here is a 5-megapixel camera as well as an LED flash. Open the phone and you get a very nice 2.7-inch color display. It's only 65,000 colors, but the resolution is very high. Underneath that, you do get a full QWERTY keyboard. It's a little bit too thin and flat for our taste, but it is a little bit angled and sloped, so we could still text by feel. On the top is the Quick Access bar for your date and time information as well as for your wireless connections. You also get the Notifications bar for all your new messages. Underneath that, you get a whole new navigation interface. You get up to 5 different screens for your frequently used apps and functions. There's the All Screen, the frequently used screen, your favorite screen, and for all your media as well as the downloaded apps. We found a new interface very easy to use with the optical trackpad. We did wish it was a little bit more precise, but we were happy overall. One other feature of Blackberry OS 6 that we like a lot was Universal Search. Just start typing and the phone will immediately start to search through the phone. The Blackberry Style also comes with e-mail support of course, text and multimedia messaging, instant messaging, and stereo bluetooth. It also has a new webkit-enabled browser, GPS with Sprint navigation, and Wi-Fi. The Blackberry Style also has Sprint's EV-DO Rev. A. The RIM Blackberry Style is available for $99.99 with a new 2-year service agreement from Sprint. I am Nicole Lee, and this has been the first look at the RIM Blackberry Style.

BlackBerry Style - steel gray (Sprint) Review

The good: The RIM BlackBerry Style combines a clamshell form factor and a full QWERTY keyboard. It ships with BlackBerry OS 6, which has an improved user interface, a new WebKit browser, and a better multimedia experience. Call quality was impressive.

The bad: The Style's square design may be a bit bulky for some users, and the keyboard is a touch too flat for our tastes.

The bottom line: Despite a few quirks, the RIM BlackBerry Style's practical design and advanced feature set make it a great smartphone for BlackBerry newbies and veterans alike.
