>> Hi, I'm Bonnie Cha, Senior Editor at CNET.com and today I have your First Look at the RIM BlackBerry Bold. This was announced about 6 months ago and we finally have it in hand and you know, I was kind of sick of waiting, but now I absolutely love it now that I've seen it. Of course the BlackBerry Bold gets its name because of the screen. It's amazingly bright and vibrant. Probably the best one I've seen on a smartphone. It's just really sharp and the colors pop and videos and pictures look absolutely gorgeous on here. The keyboard is pretty easy to use for composing e-mails and text messages. I haven't had any problems and it's got nice little ridges, so you get that nice tactile feel. It got trackball navigator, as well as your standard shortcuts over here. On the back there's a bit of a leather backing here. It's a little bit wide, so if you're gonna slip it in your pocket it might be a little bit bulky. Also, I think it looks pretty masculine. I have a BlackBerry Curve and I like that it's smaller. That's the minor thing. Style is subjective, but that's just what I thought personally. As far as features, it's running the latest BlackBerry operating system, so you got this nice updated interface with some flashy icons. And it also ships with Documents To Go now, so you can do some document editing and viewing. It's also the first HSDPA BlackBerry and this is the reason why RIM said they delayed the Bold is because they really wanted to test out the 3G on the Bold to make sure it was right instead of some of the snafoos that happened with the iPhone. Other wireless options include Wi-Fi; Bluetooth and GPS and you can use it with the AT&T Navigator to get turn-by-turn directions. It also supports AT&T's cellular video and music services and as far as multimedia features it has a 2-megapixel camera here on the back as well as a media player. I found the multimedia experience on this phone incredible. The sound that comes out of the stereo on the back is the best I've heard from a smartphone and again the screen makes watching videos amazing. Some features that I didn't particularly love about it is the web browsing. BlackBerry's web browser has always kind of lag behind the competition, so it's not gonna be as good as an iPhone and you're not getting a touchscreen obviously, but again probably better for the business users, but very strong messaging and lots of great upgrades to the features and design. It will be available in November 4 through AT&T and it will cost $299.99. I'm Bonnie Cha and this has been your First Look at the RIM BlackBerry Bold. ^M00:02:30 [ Music ]

RIM BlackBerry Bold - black (AT&T) Review

The good: The RIM BlackBerry Bold boasts one of the sharpest displays we've seen on a smartphone and offers great multimedia performance. The smartphone also brings HSDPA support, more productivity tools, and an updated OS. Other goodies include Wi-Fi; GPS; Bluetooth; and strong e-mail support with full QWERTY keyboard.

The bad: The Bold is a bit bulky and expensive. The Web browser isn't as easy to navigate as the competition.

The bottom line: For those who waited, the RIM BlackBerry Bold won't disappoint. The Bold impresses with its brilliant display, enhanced productivity tools, and excellent multimedia performance to deliver a more powerful and well-rounded smartphone to mobile professionals.
