>> Hi, I'm David Carnoy, Executive Editor for CNET.com and this is the RCA Small Wonder EZ201 camcorder that allows you to easily share your videos with friends and family via the web or email. It's really the equivalent of a point and shoot camcorder. There really isn't a whole lot to set. You can choose between a good quality video and a so so quality video that allows you to go from storing 30 minutes of video on the internal 512 megabytes of memory to 60 minutes of video. The good news on this model is there is an expansion slot for SD and MMC memory cards. To shoot a video all you have to do is press a little red button on the back. You can then view and delete your video. The key thing is that after you shoot your video it's very easy to get the video off the Small Wonder. You just slide the little USB toggle up, connect at your computer and the software is built into the camera itself. It automatically uploads on to your computer. Another small change in this year's model is the screen flips out so you can actually shoot yourself and there's a threaded tripod mount on the bottom of the unit. And lastly there is a port at the top that allows you to combine this with an optional accessory that allows you to burn your videos to DVDs. All in all we've been fairly impressed with the improvements that RCA has made with this model. It's dropped the price, added some new features, the video quality isn't stellar but it's going to be just fine for a lot of people and should really appeal to technophobes that just wanted to get the video on their cameras up on the web or emailed to people. RCA Small Wonder EZ201 (silver) Review
The good: RCA has improved its Small Wonder lightweight video camera with a few design tweaks, the addition of an SD/MMC card slot, better built-in software, and a lower street price. With its nifty hideaway USB connector, EZ201 makes it very easy to capture and send low-resolution video e-mails, then share them on the Web via the free Box.net video-sharing site. Also, there's a tripod mount on the bottom of the unit.
The bad: Video quality is still pretty mediocre; not Mac compatible; 2x zoom is digital, not optical.
The bottom line: While its video quality doesn't nearly measure up to that of a true digital camcorder, RCA's affordable Small Wonder EZ201 will appeal to technophobes looking for an idiot-proof way to quickly share video clips with friends and family.
