>> I'm Brian Cooley with a quick tip on taking better photos with your digital camera, this time by going wide. Today digital cameras have amazing levels of zoom, six, eight, ten, twelve times zoom. And folks want to use it, they're always zooming into things. But I would say you should use as much of your photographic time shooting wide. Here's why. Three good things happen when your lens is in the widest setting. First of all, there's a lot less camera shake. Zoom magnifies camera shake, wide de-emphasizes it. Secondly, when a lens is wide it gathers more light, so you're going to get the shot more often when you're wide, given the same lighting situation. Third, when you're wide, everything tends to be in focus. You won't likely have an area of importance that got blurred out. Now with those three things together, take your picture in the wide setting, and then later you can crop down to just what you wanted, even though the photo might be more than you were emphasizing. That's because cameras today have so much resolution, like ten megapixels on this little guy, you've got plenty of photo to throw away, crop into what you want, and still get a very good resolution final image.
