Quick Tips: Shooting night shots with the Canon A550 Video Transcript

>> You've seen the shots, those great night exposures of cities or traffic or lights. They're almost mystical. But how do you take them with a simple point and shoot camera. I'm Brian Cooley with a Quick Tip on doing exactly that with a Canon PowerShot 8550 or similar point and shoot digital camera. Here's what you do. Turn your camera on in the manual photo shooting mode. That's the M on the wheel there. Then press function set, the little button in the middle of the nav wheel, then press menu and notice the bottom menu there, it shows long shutter. Now you can move the wheel to the left or the right to increase or decrease the number of seconds the shutter will stay open. That's the trick. Now mount the camera on a tripod or something steady and try one, two, five, even six, or seven seconds to get the right effect. It's going to require trial and error, but that's okay, because you're not wasting any film. To get back out of this mode it's very simple. Either move the camera back to the auto picture taking mode or press menu and then function set again.
