>> I love Sudoku, you know these iPhone apps are great the only problem is you need to be connected to the internet somehow to make them work, either by Wifi or cell service. But, what if you've got no connection at all? I'm Tom Merritt with a quick tip on how you can use something called data URLs to make your apps work even when you have no Wifi or cell service or nothing. See, every iPhone app is just a web page and if you look in the source code, you see all the elements that make up the app. So, why can't I just save that data to my iPhone so I can use it when I have no data service? Well, I can. A data URL contains all the code for the page inside the URL. Now, it just so happens that Safari for the iPhone supports data URLs. So, you could go to the trouble of converting your favorite web app by parsing it with a little bit of pearl code like the one offered here by wclawpaws and maybe you should. It's fun, but if you're lazy like me, some fine folks have built on the works of mister claw paws at somewhere.com/url2iphone.html. For my app I surfed to that location on my iPhone, I entered the URL of my desired app in the box and converted it right there, clicked on the result and the app loaded fine. So then, I booked marked it. Now, I can use the decision maker app no matter where I am whether I have a connection or not. Keep in mind the bigger the app is the harder it is to convert and some apps like pocket dig or pocket twitter require a net connection to work so those aren't going to work no matter where you are. That's it for this quick tip I'm Tom Merit for CNET.com. Now you can enjoy your apps on an airplane or something. ^M00:01:41 [ Music ]
