Quick Tips: Keep bookmarks synced across browsers Video Transcript
Hey there, I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com with a quick tip for keeping your bookmarks synced between different browsers. Thanks to Dave, a listener to "Buzz Out Loud," who phoned us about Foxmarks. A Firefox add-on. Here's how to use it. Go to add-ons.mozilla.org and search for Foxmarks. Add the add-on to Firefox and restart the browser. Once it's restarted Go to tools, choose Foxmarks, and settings. Press Run Setup Wizard. Choose No, help me create one. Enter your information. You can customize the settings for how often it syncs your bookmarks, and even host the bookmarks file on your own server if you wish. Now when you go to a different computer. Install the add-on on that computer's browser and log-in. All your bookmarks should show up. This is limited to Firefox. If you want to sync across browsers, try Sitebar from Sitebar.org. Sitebar is free and open source and just a tad less easy to use than Foxmarks. But it will sync your bookmarks between IE and Firefox on any computer. It does insert ads into the service unless you upgrade to a for-pay plan, or run your own server. You might also look at Zinkmo at Zinkmo.com. They also sync bookmarks between IE and Firefox though they aren't yet supporting Firefox 3. Finally Mozilla itself is beta testing something called Weave that syncs bookmarks, history, saved forms and more across firefox browsers. You can find it at services.mozilla.com Thanks to Paul for the reminder! Well I hope one of those helps you keep everything in sync. That's it for this Quick Tip. I'm Tom Merritt for CNET.com
