>> I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com. Here's a quick tip for finding free virus scans online. Lots of security companies want to get your business, so they provide free online scans. And these are great for one off looks into your PC's health. Let's start at Kaspersky dot com slash virus scanner. Ironically they require you to use Internet explorer to run their service. Press the button, accept the terms of service, allow them the privilege to run, press install and also allow the item to run. And you may have to accept the agreement a few more times. Annoying, I know. The scanner will download virus definitions to your hard drive. This can take a while the first time you do it. Then you tell it what to scan and the scan runs. Now this process is typical for other online scanners like Bip Defender and Pan The Security. Trend Micro's online scanner at HouseCall dot TrendMicro dot com is Firefox friendly and gives you the option of scanning individual folders for malware. This is also a good way to test your current antivirus software to see if it missed anything. And just so you know, if it does find something it will take action not force you to buy the product.
