Quick Tips: Aperture Priority Mode on a Nikon D80 Video Transcript

>> If you bought 1880 or similar Nikon digital SLR, you must have done it for creative control. Well let me share with you one of my favorite modes on those exact lines. It's called aperture priority mode. I'm Brian Cooley with a quick tip. Turn the camera on and then rolled the main mode wheel over to a for aperture. Now get your index finger on this wheel on the front of the grip and roll it back and forth. You can go all the way down to F3.5 as you see there on the info display. When you're in the 3.5's and the 4's, you are going to get limited depth of field, in other words, very little from front to back, will be in focus. As you go to F22, just about everything will be in focus, from very near to very far. Now when you go to those smaller F numbers, that's a great way to bring something out of the background and make it pop in the final image. Like this picture I took of blooms on a tree. Notice the first image, it's all kind of muddled together with the background. Then, when I dropped down to a very wide open or small F number, I am able to surface the subject and bring it to the foreground. It's a great effect and you can use it for a whole lot of different techniques and picture taking situations.
