-I'm Nicole Lee, senior associate editor for cnet.com and this is a first look at the Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus. It is pretty much identical to the Voyager Pro from last year, but it has a few more added features. As you can see, it has the same behind the ear design, a very large battery pack on the back here that it fits behind the ear. On the top here is a volume rocker. On the back is the power button. The call button is on the side of the earpiece here. The overall headset even though is quite bulky, is very comfortable to wear. You can swivel the boom mic in for more compact shape. You can also swivel the earpiece to fit either the left or right ear. At the very tip of the boom mic here are 2 WindSmart shells to help reduce wind noise. On the back here is a very comfortable earpiece gel. The Voyager Pro Plus has a few added features over its predecessor. Not only does it have the usual headset features like answering/ending/reject calls, last number redialing and so forth, it also has A2DP streaming now as well as wireless multipoint. When you pair it when an iPhone, you can see the headset battery matter that's with the iPhone's own battery meter. Like the Savor M1100, the Voyager Pro Plus also comes with access to Plantronics vocalist which is Plantronics new automated phone service. You'll get one year's free access to the basic service. This let's you hear updates on variety of things like weather, sports scores, and so forth. You can also set up reminders on every note, listen to incoming e-mails, and even tweets from your Twitter account. The basic version will let you record your voice, upload it to the Plantronics servers, and send a link to the audio file in the e-mail or message. The basic level is free for the first year with the purchase of the headset. We like having the services. I wouldn't pay extra for them. The Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus is available for $99 retail. Plantronics Voyager PRO+ Bluetooth Headset Review
The good: The Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus has a very comfortable fit, with a dedicated power switch, a volume rocker, and a swiveling boom mic. It has multipoint, A2DP streaming, voice alerts, a battery meter when paired with an iPhone, and access to Plantronics Vocalyst, an automated phone service that lets you send e-mail, texts, and even tweets with just your voice. Audio quality and wind noise reduction are very good.
The bad: The Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus is quite bulky, and might not fit comfortably for those who wear glasses. The Vocalyst service is only free for the first year, plus you have to upgrade to the Pro level to get the speech-to-text feature.
The bottom line: The Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus may not be the most stylish headset, but its features and performance more than make up for it.
