>> Antuan Goodwin: GPS navigation, Bluetooth hands free calling and digital audio playback are the big 3 car tech must haves these days. Wouldn't it be great to take care of all 3 with 1 box? I'm Antuan Goodwin this is your first look at the Pioneer AVIC 310BT navigation receiver. The AVIC U310BT is the entry level to Pioneers updated 2009 AVIC lineup. The unit features a fairly basic GPS navigation system with useful features such as text to speech and lane guidance but it doesn't feature traffic reporting. One serious disappointment is the units severely limited pre-loaded points of interest. There isn't even an category for restaurants. What's up with that? A really neat feature is that the faceplate is removable and features a rechargeable battery so that it can be used outside of the car. This faceplate lacks a GPS antenna of its own so it can be used as a portable navigator but it can be used to input destinations and plan multi destination trips from your couch instead of from inside of an idling car. The BT at the end of U310BT means that this unit features Bluetooth hands free connectivity. You'll even automatically import your contacts to its internal memory for easy retrieval, that's a nice touch. This unit doesn't feature Bluetooth audio streaming but it does have a single slot CD player with MP3 and WMay playback as well as a USB cable for connecting digital media players and portable storage devices. The unit supports iPod playback but doesn't ship with a 30 pin dot connector so bring your own synch cable. Once connected the user is given access to the iPods full audio library via the U130BTs controller or by activating a passenger control function which utilizes the iPods interface for control. AM FM radio and analog auxiliary input round out the U310BTs available audio sources. Now the AVIC U310BT crams a lot of tech into 1 box but it's a lot of basic tech. This is after all an entry level model. Advanced features such as navigation, traffic data, Bluetooth audio streaming and video playback make appearances further up the AVIC lineup. >> However, at this low price point the, AVIC U310BT is a tough act to follow and there's still enough tech to meet many users needs. I'm Antuan Goodwin and this has been your first look at the Pioneer AVIC U310BT. ^M00:02:22 [ Music ]

Pioneer AVIC-U310BT Review

The good: The Pioneer AVIC-U310BT supports digital audio playback from USB storage devices, MP3 players, and iPods. The hands-free calling feature automatically imports contacts form a paired phone. The touch screen is detachable and powered, for destination entry and trip planning outside of the vehicle.

The bad: The preloaded point-of-interest library is severely limited. Multiple menu sources make it hard to find the parameter you want to change. No video playback options.

The bottom line: The Pioneer AVIC-U310BT isn't perfect, but it meets most people's needs for navigation, hands-free calling, and digital audio playback at a very affordable price.
