>> Hey, what's going on everyone?

>> I'm Jeff Bakalar for www.cnet.com. Today we're going to be looking at the Phillip's DC912. The DC912 is a sleek, looking iPod slash iPhone speaker that includes a wireless subwoofer and a rotating dock that actually allows you to view your iPhone in landscape mode. The system also includes a USB, SD, and a multimedia card input for listening to DRM Free MP3's and WMA audio files, in addition, to using the systems auxiliary line in check. While, the 912 is cool to look out, the sound quality is not exactly what we were hoping for. Also, the included subwoofer has a hard time making it's presence felt. We were a little disappointed to find out that iPhone interference was actually a problem with the speaker. You're really going to have to put the iPhone into airline [assumed spelling] mode to prevent any static from occurring when you get calls or when data is [inaudible] transfer, anything like that. The remote control works, but we found that the buttons are a little on the small size. It's nice when you can navigate through your iPod with it, but you're really going to have to be up close to the system in order to see exactly what you're doing on your iPod. This is priced around 170 dollars, but we'd recommend stepping down to the DC910. This model gets rid of the useless sub and it knocks fifty dollars off the price tag.

Phillips DC912 Review

The good: Slick-looking iPod/iPhone speaker with wireless subwoofer; rotating dock allows for iPod Touch/iPhone viewing in landscape mode; includes USB and SD/MMC card inputs and wall mounting bracket.

The bad: Expensive for this level of sound quality; subwoofer is not balanced with the system; black bevel tends to collect fingerprint smudges; no video outputs; remote is too tiny for larger fingers; lack of electromagnetic shielding requires iPhone to be put into airplane mode.

The bottom line: The Philips DC912 squanders its eye-catching design with subpar sound.
