>> Hi, I'm John Falcone senior editor at CNET.com and this is the Phillips Prestego SRU 8010 Universal Remote. This remote's claim to fame is that it has customized his and hers channel lineups. But if you look beyond that sort of talking point it's actually a really good affordable and easy to program universal remote on several levels. One of the big attractions here is this really nice color screen up at the top. It's plenty bright and really big and very detailed. So, you can see everything you're doing including all of the channel logos that you can assign to all of your favorite channels. The overall design and ergonomics are generally pretty great as well. The buttons are nice and big. It feels, it's a little heavy because it uses three double A remotes. But otherwise, it feels pretty good in your hand. About the only thing I didn't like about the design is that the video transport keys are here at the very bottom. And I thought they'd be better off more towards the middle where your thumb would be while you're holding this in your hand. As far as programming this device, it's one of the simpler ones we've ever seen. There's no PC required. You don't need any codebook in front of you. all you do is use the screen up here again and go through a wizard setup where you just tell it which device you want to set up, tell it the brand, and then just cycle through the codes until you see your device turn off. if you want additional commands, it also has a learning function. You just get your old remote, point it at the bottom here and it learns the IR codes. There's a more simply straightforward kind of low to midrange TV and home theater owners and it does a really great job in that area. I'm John Falcone for CNET and this is the Phillips Prestego SRU 8010 Universal Remote. ^M00:01:57 [ Music ]

Philips Prestigo SRU8010 Review
The good: Controls 10 devices; easy, wizard-based programming plus ability to learn from other remotes; large, superbright screen with 10 contextual hard buttons; as many as 10 customized channel guides with familiar network logos; plenty of buttons, including DVR specific keys.
The bad: Placement of video transport keys should be higher; advanced users will lament the absence of task-based control macros; may be too heavy or bulky for some tastes.
The bottom line: Philips' superb Prestigo SRU8010 will appeal to TV-centric users looking for a universal remote that's both affordable and easy to set up.
