>> Hi, I'm senior editor David Katzmaier from CNET.com and I'm with Phillips 42PF9631D. This is a 42 inch flat panel plasma television. As you can see, it's actually a little bit bigger than a lot of the other 42 inch TVs on the market. That's on account of this relatively wide swath of black plastic around the edge here. It's also a little bit taller because below the screen here is where you find the speakers. The look overall is pretty darn stylish though, relatively neat, nice angled look especially on the sides and the back. Of course, when you look behind this TV you also notice a pair of lights on either side of the set. That's because this TV is equipped with Phillips Ambilight technology. Those lights will shine on the wall behind the TV, especially if its wall mounted. And they actually are designed to either put a color back there. You can choose from a palette of colors swinging between red, green, blue, violet, what have you. Or you can also go ahead and just set the Ambilight to follow the onscreen action. So for example, if you're looking at a blue sky, the ambilight supposedly turn blue, if the picture becomes a little darker, the ambilights themselves dim. So if you really want that extra bit of backlight, ambilight is pretty much the only game in town. In terms of other features, this Phillips is pretty well equipped. Around back, you'll find two HDMI inputs, two component video inputs. If you want to connect a computer, you're going to have to buy a special adapter and connect it to one of the component video inputs. But it will accept a PC input with a little bit of work. When we took the Phillips into the lab, overall we didn't find its performance quite as good as a lot of the other 42 inch flat panel plasmas out there. The picture did exhibit slight false contouring which is a little bit of noise in some darker areas and color accuracy wasn't quite up to par.
