>> I'm David Carnoy, executive editor for CNET.com and I'm here to tell you about the Parrot Boombox. This is a Bluetooth speaker system, there isn't anything too complicated about this, this is basically a speaker with a built-in amplifier and a Bluetooth transceiver. These speakers both fairly compact and fairly beefy, if there is such a thing, it weighs about 12 pounds, designed to fit on a shelf. It's all one speaker but there is a 4-inch woofer and two 2-inch tweeters. The grill at the front is removable and we like that it adheres magnetically, which means you can just slip it on and off easily. Around back you will find an audio input, if you don't want to go wireless, you can connect a cable to this composite, red and white cable, connect another audio device. There's also a little handle around back so you can pick this up fairly easily. It isn't battery powered however, there is an AC adapter, so it's really designed to stay put or just be moved from room to room, rather than be portable. It's easy to connect a Bluetooth enabled device such as a cell phone, or even iPod with the dogal[sp?] to the Parrot Boombox. You press a button on the top of the device to go into pairing mode. there is volume controls on the speaker itself, but you can also control the volume from a cell phone or an iPod with the Bluetooth dogal on it. Bluetooth has gotten better in recent years and the audio isn't as compressed as it once was, it still is compressed audio and it's not quite as good as say a normal iPod speaker system, but this does sound really pretty good for a Bluetooth speaker. We found the audio quality to be quite good, but now the boombox is a little bit pricey, but we did like its audio quality, its elegant design, and all in all, we recommend this product. I'm David Carnoy and that's the Parrot Boombox. ^M00:01:51 [Music]

Parrot BOOMBOX speaker Review

Editors' rating

The good: Attractively designed wireless speaker is Bluetooth compatible, which allows you to stream stereo music from any A2DP-enabled Bluetooth audio source; built-in amplifier; decent sound; stereo line input provides compatibility with non-Bluetooth devices; upgradeable firmware.

The bad: Streaming wirelessly from an iPod requires an optional dongle; Bluetooth pairing can be a finicky process; single cabinet design limits stereo separation.

The bottom line: The Parrot Boombox wireless Bluetooth speaker system ably combines elegant design, minimalist aesthetics, and better-than-average sound quality at an affordable price.
