Pantech Hotshot (Verizon) Video Transcript
Hello, everybody. I'm Lynn La from CNET. Here, I show you guys the Pantech Hotshot from Verizon. Now, this touch screen device doesn't require a data plan but you can browse the web, check e-mail and surf the ever so popular Opera Web Browser if do want data. The handset has a 3.2-megapixel camera and a 2-gigabyte micro SD card which can be replaced up to 32 gigs. All this is packaged in a very petite phone that weighs only 3.2 ounces. It's screen is 3.2 inches and altogether it's only a 1/3-inch thick. With features like a customizable home screen and ability to close and switch between apps, you could see that these handset is trying to be across between a feature phone and a smart phone but for those who aren't technically savvy and don't need a lot of bells and whistles for their phones, they may find the Hotshot not very intuitive. Likewise, those who are keen to current phone technology will find this device too elementary. The processor is also extremely sluggish and the touch screen is not very responsive which makes texting frustrating. In addition to that, the camera lags a lot. The full retail price of this phone is $269.99. If you sign with the 2-year contract however, it will drop down to a $100. If you want the data plan, it'll cost you at least $10 per month and if you want Verizon Navigator, that'll cost you an extra $9.99 on top of that. At DC prices, you're already encroaching on smart phone data plan territory so for those who want data, it may be best to look for another phone. Again, I'm Lynn from CNET bringing you guys the Pantech Hotshot.

Pantech Hotshot - red (Verizon Wireless) Review
The good: The Pantech Hotshot is thin and light to handle. Call quality is solid, and photos taken on its camera are surprisingly decent. It doesn't require a data plan.
The bad: The Hotshot's processor is extremely laggy. The touch screen isn't sensitive, making texting, swiping, and pinch-to-zoom frustrating. If you want data, the network is slow.
The bottom line: With its delayed touch screen and sluggish processor, the Hotshot's smartphone-esque look is a detriment. It's better to commit to a full-on feature phone or a smartphone instead of a device that overlaps the two.
