>> Hi, I'm David Katzmaier, senior editor with www.cnet.com, and this is the Panasonic TC-32LX85.

>> It's a 32-inch flat panel LCD TV. Panasonic is known mainly for its plasmas, but this is and LCD model. It also is available in a little 37-inch, perfect for a bedroom size. Panasonic did the same kind of styling thing that it did this year with its plasmas as it did with this LCD. It's got a thick swath [assumed spelling] of glossy back around the screen itself, below that is a non-swiveling [assumed spelling] black stand. And, of course, the speakers are hidden along the bottom here, which is kind of a neat feature. Around the back, you'll find three HDMI inputs and two component video inputs. There's no PC input on this TV. So that's one of the things in the negative column, but, of course, a TV like this, it doesn't have 1080p resolution. So you probably want to go 1080p if you want to connect a computer to a TV like this. So this TV's lower resolution means that that lack of a PC input is not a huge deal. There's not really much you can do with the picture on this TV. When you go into menus, you want find a lot of custom adjustments. But on the flip side, out of the box, we really thought that the picture was pretty darn good when we took it into the lab. One of the things that we liked was the black level performance. This TV produces one of the deepest levels of black we've seen on a LCD TV of this size. That's very good. Its color accuracy was also pretty darn good. It's primary colors, red inline with the speckle [assumed spelling]. Though, it's color to coding wasn't quite perfect, so we did have to desaturate [assumed spelling] the color a little bit, make it a little bit less vibrant then it could have been, otherwise, the performance is very good on this TV. Again, for a smaller LCD model.

Panasonic Viera TC-32LX85 Review

The good: Reproduced deep black levels for a lower-priced LCD; accurate grayscale and primary colors; solid connectivity including three HDMI inputs; smart, unobtrusive styling.

The bad: Color decoding pushes red slightly; doesn't accept 1080p sources via HDMI; no PC input; so-so standard-definition performance.

The bottom line: The 32-inch Panasonic TC-32LX85 delivers surprisingly impressive picture quality for a small-screen LCD TV.
