>> Hi, I'm Bonnie Cha, senior editor at CNET.com and today we are taking up first look at the Palm Treo Pro. You know this is like unlike any other Treo in the past. They've done a lot to update the design and features that--so we're really happy to see that. As far as design, it's obviously slimmer. I have some previous Treos here. This is 700p so you can see the difference there. And this is the latest Treo 800w and also pretty slim compared to that. On front you've got a touch screen here and it's pretty easy to view. It also has a new screen saver mode, so when you're not using the phone you can see your time or any messages that you have. The navigation array here is pretty new. I like the layout, pretty easy to use. Here, you've got shortcuts to your calendar and inbox. The cordy keyboard is very much like the Centro. It is a little wired but I'm still not a huge fan of it. For a device that's professional, I find the keyboard to look a little kiddish and I think people will larger thumbs are gonna have problems with the smaller keys here even though there's a bit spacing in between. Feature wise, it's running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition. Again this is a business-oriented device. It has WiFi, Bluetooth, HSTPA support and GPS, so that's great that all the wireless options are in there. So while Palm's done a lot to update the device, it's offering pretty much the same as the competition. It's gonna be sold unlocked. It hasn't been picked up by US carrier, so you're gonna pay about 550 dollars. When the price is that steep, it's gonna be pretty hard to justify getting this device even though it is really sleek looking. The Palm Treo Pro will be available this fall and I'm Bonnie Cha and this has been your first look at the Palm Treo Pro. ^M00:01:45 [ Music ]

Palm Treo Pro (unlocked) Review

The good: The Palm Treo Pro boasts a sleek design and offers a wide range of wireless options, including Wi-Fi, HSDPA, Bluetooth, and GPS. The Windows Mobile smartphone also provides many productivity and communication tools for the business user.

The bad: The Treo Pro is too expensive and can be sluggish at times. The QWERTY keyboard is cramped and doesn't really suit the business feel of the device.

The bottom line: The Palm Treo Pro offers significant improvements in the design and features department, but the smartphone doesn't offer anything revolutionary and costs more than its competitors, which will make it a hard sell.
