>> Hi. I'm Bonnie Cha, Senior Editor at cnet.com and today, we are taking a first look at the Palm Treo 800w for Sprint and this is the first update for a Treo in quite a while. I know I've given Palm kind of a hard time for being out of date but they've done a pretty good job with this phone. First of all, it's the first Treo to ship with WiFi and GPS. I wasn't expecting GPS so that was a nice surprise. It's also the first Windows Mobile 6.1 device for Sprint as well as the first one shipping with EV-DO Rev A support. So, you're gonna get some super fast download speed. I was actually watching some videos on here from Sprint TV and I was amazed at how fast it was. As far as the design, they've done a really nice job of kinda trimming down the Treo. We've got a nice screen here too. They've upped that resolution to 320 bytes x 320 and the controls here are little bit like the Centro and the keyboard is more like the Treo. It's pretty easy to use. It's definitely bigger than the Centro but it's a little bit stiff. It's got a nice, soft-touch finish up here on the back. As far as other features, it's got blue tooth in which you can use with stereo blue tooth head sets. Again, it's Windows Mobile 6.1 and you can use it with Sprint navigation as far as the GPS capabilities. On back, you've got a 2 Megapixel camera and other multimedia capabilities include Sprint TV support as well as Windows Mobile Player 10. Overall, really good performance; it's got a little sluggish when there are too many applications running but that's pretty typical with Windows Mobile devices. Also, great call quality and again, just a fast device as far as web browsing and things like that. I would definitely recommend it for business users. It is available now for 249.99 with a 2-year contract and after rebates and discounts. I'm Bonnie Cha, and this has been your first look at the Palm Treo 800w for Sprint.

Palm Treo 800w - smartphone - CDMA2000 1X Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Palm Treo 800w brings the addition of Wi-Fi and GPS. The Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone also offers EV-DO Rev. A support; a higher resolution touch screen; a slimmer design; and a 2-megapixel camera.

The bad: The Treo 800w can be sluggish at times and call quality could be better. The QWERTY keyboard may also give users some problems.

The bottom line: With the addition of Wi-Fi and GPS, the Palm Treo 800w finally catches up to some of its competition and even offers a better design. The Windows Mobile smartphone will be a good fit for Sprint's business customers, if the battery life can keep up.
