Pairing your Garmin Nuvi with a Bluetooth car stereo Video Transcript

>> Antuan Goodwin: Hi. This is Antuan Goodwin, Associate Editor of car tech care at CNET.com, and I've got the Garmin Nuvi 765T. Now, the Garmin has a neat little feature that if you don't want to listen to the audio prompts through the tiny speaker that's inside, you can actually pair it with a Blutooth-compatible stereo to get your audio prompts through your car speakers. I'm going to show you how. The first thing that you're going to want to do is set up your car stereo so that it can receive your Blutooth audio. I'm going to do it here in our 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid. So I'm going to go into my menu, and then I'm going to go into system settings for Blutooth devices. I'm going to add a Blutooth device.

>> Computer Voice: Press OK to begin pairing the device.

>> Antuan Goodwin: And set it up so that it finds Sync.

>> Computer Voice: Search for Sync on your device and enter the PIN provided by Sync.

>> Antuan Goodwin: The next thing that I'm going to do on my Nuvi here is I'm going to go into the menu, and I'm going to the tools menu, and then find my settings. Once I've found my settings, I can come down into Blutooth, and it'll give me a couple of options here. The option that we're looking for is audio. So I'm going to add a Blutooth audio device, and it's going to tell me to search for the device on the Blutooth. Now, what it's going to do is look for new Blutooth devices. Now there may be a couple of devices that show up, but in this case, we're looking for Sync. So I'm going to give it a second to do that. It, it's found a cell phone, and it's found Sync. Now, we're going to search for Sync, and what we're going to do is go ahead and pair that. Now, I've got my Sync set up to pin up 0, 0, 0, 0, and it's right there. It shows me that the device is ready to use.

>> Computer Voice: [bleep] For your safety, please stay alert to changing road conditions and use Sync's voice-activated features while your vehicle is in motion.

>> Antuan Goodwin: Now that I've got Sync connected, I can come into my menu over here on my car stereo.

>> Computer Voice: Press OK to begin.

>> Antuan Goodwin: And select my source. So I'm going to select my source as Sync, Blutooth audio. And it's showing that I'm paired right now with the Nuvi and a, a PIN device. Now, one of the neat benefits of this is that if you have media on your Garmin, you can control the, or play that back through your stereo as well while you drive, but the primary benefit is when it comes to routing. Now, instead of coming through the tiny speaker, we're going to get our route guided through the car speakers. ^M00:02:39 [ Pause ] ^M00:02:45

>> Antuan Goodwin: Any second now.

>> Computer Voice: Turn sharply left on Harrison Street, then turn left.

>> Antuan Goodwin: Then that right there is how you pair your Garmin Nuvi 765T with a Blutooth-compatible car stereo. I'm Antuan Goodwin, Associate Editor of CNET car tech, and this has been a quick view.
