Origin Genesis Video Transcript

-Hi. I'm Rich Brown, senior editor for cnet.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the ORIGIN Genesis. So, this is a custom gaming PC and it comes with Intel's brand-new Sandy Bridge core i7-2600K CPU. It's a quad-core chip. It's highly overclockable and it's extremely power efficient. That's like-- ORIGIN overlock the system up to 4.6 gigahertz from its starting 4.4 gig speed. It makes it one of the fastest systems we've ever tested. This particular configuration comes in at 24.99. You can expect that the other boutique vendors will have added Intel's new chip, so we definitely encourage you to shop around. With that said, we found the system pretty well built and exceedingly fast and we definitely recommend you put it on your list when you're comparing this higher end gaming PCs. The design of this system is fairly straightforward for a system in this price range. It has one unique feature though. You can see this panel here in the front. It's got a little lock on it. If you unlock that door, you can see the front access hard drive bay. We always liked the front access drives and the added securities and nice little feature too. Up here, there's a standard DVD burner as well as a media card reader down the bottom. Go over the ports from the back of the system quickly and get the usual handful of USB ports as well as USB3 jacks, a couple of eSATA outputs, all kinds of digital audio as well as 7.1 analog audio. And the graphics card, you get 2 DVI outputs as well as a mini HDMI out. And inside the system, you can see ORIGIN has done a pretty good job of building a nice tidy gaming PC. You can see here's, it's the pretty big guy. Liquid cooling rig, it goes down to the CPU there. You can see there's 2 memory sticks here. In this case, there's 8 gigs of memory. So, down here, you can see the graphics card and this is an overclock GeForce GTX 580 card. Now, we've seen other Sandy Bridge systems that have 2 graphic cards and the system isn't quite as fast as that, at least when you get the plenty games at very, very high resolutions. Well, for the most part, the system will play anything out there at a pretty great image quality also. So here, you can see the hard drive you can access from the front installed as a 1 terabyte drive. There's room for 1 more. Down here, you have the 64 gigs solid state drive also. This is a nice fast bootup drive. There's room for a few more drives here, but we kind of wish that ORIGIN had added the passive backplane for the data and power ports, which will make it much easier to pop in drives without the hassle of routing the cables or having them kind of like come in through the front and look a little bit messy. Finally, if you wanna add more cards to the systems, you'd definitely get some room. There's a PCI express graphics card as well as a couple standard PCI slots and a 1X PCI express slot up there. The only thing we'll say with adding a second card is that config comes with a 750-watt power supply. With overclock CPU and the fast graphics card in there already, you'll probably want a beefier power unit and you can certainly configure that from ORIGIN's website. So, as we said earlier, the system is one of the fastest we've seen thanks to its new Intel CPU. This is also a pretty great gaming box especially for the 24.99 price. I'm Rich Brown. This is the ORIGIN Genesis.
