>> I'm Dan Ackerman, Senior Editor at CNET.com and we are here taking a look at the eagerly awaited OQO Model 02. That's a UMPC or Ultra Mobile PC. Now this looks more like a little black brick not a PC at all. What do you do? You slide the screen up and look at that, you have got a full QWERTY keyboard and a five inch screen. These keys are kind of like Blackberry keys but they're a little raised, which makes it easier to use than some of the other UMPC's we've seen. There's also a separate number pad, which is handy when you're punching in those figures. You've got a little thumb stick right here to control your mouse pointer and left and right mouse buttons. You kind of angle them under your thumbs like this and then you can move around the screen. Now a lot of people use these devices to surf the web so you can just call up your favorite website and actually scroll up and down on the page using these little touch [inaudible] in the scroll bars. So that is kind of cool but it's a little expensive if you just want to use it as a web surfing toy. This guy instead of having an Intel or AMD CPU, it's got a VIA processor. That's supposed to use less energy, make the battery last longer but you still kind of get bad battery life and the performance is a little bit sluggish. There's also a Sprint or Verizon EVDL option but those models are not shipping just yet. Like other handheld PC's there are not a lot of ports or connections on this guy. They've got a single USB port, you've got a headphone jack and you've got an HDMI output, which is actually kind of nice. When it comes to ultra mobile PC's this is really one of the nicest best designed ones we've seen but that battery life is really going to be a killer. If you're going to carry this around in your pocket all day you're really not going to get a lot of use out of it. What we're waiting for is somebody to take all the best features from the different UMPC's we've seen and combine them into one great system. I'm Dan Ackerman and that is the OQO Model 02. ^M00:01:48 [ Music ]
