I'm Molly Wood from CNET.com with a Quick Tip on how to open programs a lot faster in Vista. The old Windows Start menu gets a face-lift in Vista, but I find it kind of clunky. In XP, you can just mouse over to Programs and bring up a list. In Vista, you have to click All Programs, and then the list that comes up is smaller than in XP, so you have to scroll to see them all if you have a lot installed. Its minor, but it bugs me. That's how I am. However, here's the best way to open programs in Vista. The search bar. You might not think of it, since it's labeled search, but all you do is hit the Windows key, or click the start button, and start typing the name of the program you want, like Word, iTunes, Messenger, or Firefox. Now this tip sort of works for older versions of Windows, too. In XP, you can use it to open Windows programs, but you have to click Start, and then Run, and then you have to know the shortcode for the program. For Word, you type winword. Excel is just excel. Calculator is calc. Internet Explorer is iexplore. But with Vista, you can search for any program at all, and it'll pop right up. Trust me: it saves many clicks. Your RSI will thank you.
