Open-car motoring in the new Jaguar F-Type Video Transcript
-I'm Wayne Cunningham with CNET. Now, back at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year, Jaguar announced a new car, the F-Type, but they didn't actually show the car there. Now, at the 2012 Paris Motor Show where we are now, we finally get to see that car. It's a new F-Type. It's a roadster, real true sports car in it. It really goes back more Jaguar heritage than the current stable of cars they have. Now, under the hood, that's where you're really gonna be interested in. They've got 3 engine options. Two are V6 supercharged. One making about 340 horsepower and another making 380 horsepower, but they also have a V8. And this is similar to the V8s they used in their-- their bigger cars, so that's gonna make this car really fast. They're saying 4.3 seconds for 60 miles an hour. That engine is hooked up to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Now, that maybe goes away from the traditional sports car heritage. It's not a manual. It's an automatic. 8 speeds will get you pretty decent fuel economy though and that's what kind of what they're striving for, but this is what they call a click shift automatic. It's not a dual clutch, but it should have a clutch in there that will lock up the gears and you won't get that [unk] slushiness that you're used to from automatic transmissions. Jaguar says these cars will enter production in February of next year, which means they will start rolling at the dealerships shortly after. Of course, in the U.S., they will probably only come out with a V8. They haven't sold V6 in the U.S. with their current crop of cars. Maybe they'll have it. Maybe they won't. We'll have to wait and see. I'm Wayne Cunningham reporting from the Paris Motor Show.
