Hi, I'm Scott Stein, senior editor at CNET.com and this is the First Look at OnLive MicroConsole service playing on an iPad. Really playing games on an iPad. Now, we've heard about OnLive before. The MicroConsole service works on PCs. There's actually a dedicated device that plugs into your TV and has a connected controller. The service streams PC games and allows you to play them at pretty good resolutions nearly flawlessly for a wide variety of games on a rental or purchase basis. Now, the iPad and Android are going to be getting, in the fall, a very special update that's going to allow the games to be played on these tablet devices, too. Right now, on the iPad, you can view other people playing these games but you can't play them yet, but here actually, we're playing Red Faction and this controls it. You can move around and-- and move in Red Faction. Now, you're using an on-screen virtual controller, so it's-- you know, it comes with the ups and downs that a virtual controller has, but eventually, in the fall, when this launches, there will be a full controller, Bluetooth, that will work with this and offer much more precise control. We actually played Virtua Tennis on this and found that there was no real problem with lag. We were able to play the game pretty well over a 5-megabit internal wireless connection with another device connected to it, so that was pretty impressive. There is a lot more questions we have including whether it will work over AirPlay or HDMI. We'll find out a lot more in the fall when it launches, but this certainly could be a real killer app for iPad gaming and for console/PC gaming alternatives considering how easy it is to carry around with you.
