>> Tom Merritt: Hi. I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com here at CES2009. Taking a look at the Nyko Wand. This is a really Nyko peripheral for the Nintendo Wii. You may know them from the wireless Nunchuk that they sell. This is a replacement for your regular Nintendo wand. So it's got the emitter on the front. It's got all the regular buttons. They tweaked it a little bit by coloring the buttons similar to the classic controller. Made them a little bigger as well, but the really interesting part is actually, believe it or not, these three pins right down here. This is their transport technology, and what this does is allow you to create attachments for this that translate the buttons to the attachments. So what I'm talking about is you normally you get that crazy gun, and you stick this in, and there's a mechanical lever that has to push this button, and you still have to push the A button yourself. Instead, they've made something like this. So you put this into the gun, and it will translate the buttons to the trigger. Let me show you how it works. You pop the back off here. A little bit clunky to have to do, and then you insert into the gun, pop the connector in, and now, while you still have the B button down here, this is also the B button, and while you still have the A button down here, this is the A button as well. So you have a much more ergonomic situation going on when you're trying to fire, and there's also a way to flip flop these if you want this to be A and this to be B as well. When you're done, you just pull this out, and you can put it into another attachment. They say they're going to come out with a keyboard as well, and they'll look into coming up with other attachments as well. Now, the actual wand itself they think will retail around $30 to $40 and should be available in the spring, and then the attachments will follow on after that. Probably somewhere in the $20 to $30 range, and like I said, the gun and the keyboard is what they're anticipating having to begin with, hoping to sell some bundles as well. This is the Nyko Wand at CES2009. I'm Tom Merritt. [ Music ]

While it's more of a luxury accessory than a must-have accessory, the Nyko Kama Wireless Nunchuk does a good job of eliminating that final cable from your Wii's controller.

Nyko Wand (Wii) Review

The good: Bigger buttons; rubberized battery cover; includes strap and rubber cover; Trans-Port technology opens up plenty of expansion options.

The bad: No products support Trans-Port yet; D-pad is bulky and cumbersome; Wii MotionPlus compatibility unknown; doesn't include a rechargeable battery pack.

The bottom line: The absence of products that support Trans-Port and the uncertainty of MotionPlus compatibility may have you waiting until you pull the trigger on a Nyko Wand.
