Norton Internet Security 2011 Video
Norton Internet Security 2011 Video Transcript
-It's not hard to imagine that Symantec's latest Norton security suites are the best ones yet. You'll first experience one of the improvements in the new Norton when you install it. On 3 different computers, it installed in less than 60 seconds. Although Norton 2011 shares the same dark color scheme as the previous version, the interface is completely different. The security status icon has been moved up to the desktop toolbar and the system tray. And all the major protection functions now surface in the main window. Computer network and web protection are on the left with quick links to explore those features deeper just below them. On the right, Norton expose a security feature toggles. Click one and a popup asks you if you really want to deactivate the feature and for how long. At the bottom of the interface is a map that Symantec uses to show real-time block threats. Below that are 4 app style buttons to access Norton web-based features without having to open your browser. This include the activity map, Norton Online Family for parental controls, Norton Online Backup for insuring that your data has and always on backup, and Norton Safe Web for verifying links before you click on them. The reputation-based threat detection and prevention has been refreshed and more deeply integrated into the program so that it checks both your installed programs and threats against the data from Norton's 58 million users. Once Norton is installed, you can get away with not ever actively scanning your system again. You can do scan on demand of course. Available scans include for threats like viruses and malware to check your installed programs to see if they're safe and to scan your Facebook wall. The bootable recovery tool has been improved to include the creation of bootable USB devices, and the new Norton Power Eraser which is free will clean a heavily infected machine well enough to install any security program you like even if it's not Norton. Norton's performance has been rock solid with a quick scan on a real world machine taken well under a minute. CNET labs saw that the program slowed computer boot time by about 6 seconds, but computer shutdown was only half a second slower. Most importantly, recent independent threat detection and removal benchmarking tests of Norton 2010 indicate that it is extremely effective at preventing threats once installed. Norton probably will always have its detractors because of its horrendous performance years ago, but that was a different program. I highly recommend checking out the new version. The first look at Norton Internet Security 2011, I'm Seth Rosenblatt.
