>> Bonnie Cha: Hi, I'm Bonnie Cha, senior editor at www.cnet.com. And today we're taking a first look at the Nokia N95 North America edition. The demand for this phone was so high that they released a version for us here in the United States. And it has some great improvements. First of all, it supports 3G, so you're going get faster web surfing. You'll probably want to use AT&T wireless service with this phone, it's a [inaudible], but you can use T-mobile, if you want to. It also has more memory; it has a 160 megabytes versus 150 megabytes. It has longer battery life, and it's a little strange, but they took off the camera lens here. And that made room for a bigger battery, which is why you get longer battery life. It is five-megapixel camera, so it takes great pictures; you also got this two-way slider design. I've got the dial pad here for dialing numbers. And if you push it down, you got your media player keys here. Still no carrier's picked this up, so you're going to pay about seven hundred dollars out of wallet to get an unlocked version, but if you've got the money, it's a good phone, kind of an Iphone competitor, A lot of people like to say that. Has built in GPS, so that's great as well. And good call quality.

While the Nokia N97 is packed with features and offers the freedom of an unlocked phone, its clunky touch interface, sky-high price tag, and outdated operating system make it hard to recommend when there are better touch-screen smartphones on the market.

Nokia N95 - brown/silver (North American Edition, Unlocked) Review
The good: The Nokia N95 North American Edition adds 3G support and longer battery life. The Symbian smart phone also continues to offer a 5-megapixel camera and integrated GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
The bad: Without the back of a U.S. carrier, the Nokia N95 is expensive and the hardware feels a bit plasticky. Speakerphone quality wasn't the greatest.
The bottom line: The North American Edition of the Nokia N95 brings some notable additions, including 3G support and better performance, to make this powerful smart phone even better. However, it'll still leave a deep gouge in your wallet.
