>> I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at cnet.com. Today we're gonna take a First Look at the Nokia 8600 Luna. The Luna is a phone that's based a lot like the Nokia 8800; it's not an official update to it. Like the previous phone the Luna slides up like that so it does part in the middle which is a little different for a slider phone. I do like the Luna a lot better than the 8800. It does still have steel plating but that's only on the back; also it's black so it's not as shiny, it doesn't catch as many fingerprints or smudges; I also like the soft touch feel as well. It feels really nice in the hand. And here on the front instead of the silver plating we do have a glass front. It's kind of a unique design in touch, very stylish, trendy, but like with the 8800 this phone does have some tradeoffs in terms of usability for the design. When you open it up you can see that the keys here they are pretty cramped, and actually the bottom row of keys is very close to the bottom of the slider so when I kept pressing it I kept hitting the bottom of the slider. Even the keys in the middle I had trouble pressing; also just a tad slippery as well; and the top row of keys also falls very closely to these navigation toggle and navigation array. Fortunately though Nokia did improve the navigation toggle, a little easier to use than on the 8800. Here on the side the volume rocker blends in with the silver rim that goes around the phone. The silver rim is very attractive but the volume rocker I thought was a little too small; I had a little trouble finding it when the phone was on my ear. The camera lens is located here on the back so it is hidden when the phone is down and that's fine, but on a 2-megapixel camera though I was hoping for a flash or at least a self-portrait mirror. Also just be sure when your phone is up you don't close it accidentally and hang up a call. Very nice display supports 16 million colors, so very bright and colorful. Some of the small text still on the screen did look a little fuzzy but overall the graphics were great and animation looks pretty good. Pretty powerful phone; didn't have an expandable memory slot which I found a little disappointing for such an expensive phone; but overall has stereo Bluetooth and most of the features you'd expect. I'm Kent German and this is the Nokia Luna 8600. ^M00:01:50 [ Music ] ^M00:01:52

Nokia Luna 8600 (unlocked) Review
The good: The Nokia Luna 8600 has an attractive design, solid call quality, and a decent feature set including stereo Bluetooth, a music player, and voice commands.
The bad: The Nokia Luna 8600 has low talk-time battery life and a cramped keyboard. Also, its photo quality and speakerphone performance were poor, and it lacks an expendable memory slot.
The bottom line: The Nokia Luna 8600 is a beauty with good call quality, but we didn't fall for its cramped keyboard and its poor speakerphone quality.
