>> Bonnie Cha: Hi I'm Bonnie Senior Editor at CNET.com and today we're taking a first look at the Nokia E71X for AT&T. The Nokia E71X is a lot like the unlocked Nokia E71 which we took a look at awhile back but obviously with AT&T branding and some of their services. Even though it's not very flashy, I think it's classic and sexy and it's definitely appropriate for users that want to use this as a business device. The E71X is currently the thinnest QWERTY Smartphone available and as you can see it's very slim. Also has a really nice solid construction. It has a steal frame which gives it a high quality build. It doesn't feel plasticky like some of the other Smartphones I've seen. On front there's a 2.3 inch QVGA display that's really bright and sharp. It's not a touch screen though so you'll have to use the navigation keys below it to operate the phone. The full QWERTY keyboard features good size buttons but since the phone is smaller in width the layout was slightly cramped so I had some initial problems but I got used to it after awhile. The E71X offers plenty of email support including Microsoft Exchange and Pop 3 and iMap accounts. Feature wise the biggest difference between the E71 and the E71X is the addition of AT&T services such as AT&T Navigator for turn by turn directions and AT&T music and video. I actually tried out AT&T Navigator but the Smartphone had a really hard time finding our position the first time I fired it up. After 20 minutes I couldn't get a GPS fix, so I just gave up. But I tried it again the next day and was able to find my location immediately and it worked just fine after that point. You can also use the Smartphone's GPS with a preloaded yellowpages.com mobile app to find businesses near your current location and it worked just fine as well. The E71X does support AT&Ts HSDPA band so that provided fasted web browsing and streaming speeds. Checked out a couple of videos from AT&T Video and they loaded pretty quickly and played back smoothly which was nice. Other highlights of the phone include a 3.2 megapixel camera, Quick Office, Productivity Suite and good call quality. But I think the best part of the Smartphone is the price. At launch the Nokia E71X will cost $99.99 with a 2 year contract, which I think is a great value for all of the features you're getting and the high quality design. [Background music] Compared to the price here a Blackberry Bold and Samsung EPIX, the E71X is a great bargain for business users looking for a robust messaging Smartphone and even at that price I'd say it's a good deal for consumers looking for a messaging phone. While the Nokia N97 is packed with features and offers the freedom of an unlocked phone, its clunky touch interface, sky-high price tag, and outdated operating system make it hard to recommend when there are better touch-screen smartphones on the market.
The Nokia E63 offers a more wallet-friendly price tag compared to other unlocked smartphones and does so without sacrificing too many features; we just we wish the call quality and camera were better. Read review

Nokia E71x - black (AT&T) Review
The good: The Nokia E71x is affordably priced and offers a long list of features, including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 3.2-megapixel camera, as well as support for AT&T's various services. The QWERTY smartphone is very sleek with high-quality construction.
The bad: The GPS initially took a while to find our location. The keyboard layout is somewhat cramped.
The bottom line: Affordably priced, the Nokia E71x for AT&T is an incredible value for business users and consumers looking for a robust messaging smartphone.
