>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a first look at the Nokia 6500 Classic. This is a unlocked phone, it's currently not with a US carrier. But you can buy it at a number of online retailers. The design has a lot of classic Nokia attributes. It is a candy bar design, so pretty simple, it's very intuitive menus, easy to find everything that you need. It is pretty thin, Nokia never jumped into the thin phone trend fully. Had some thin phones. But it does have a nice profile, the only drawback of that, it doesn't have a volume rocker on the side, so that does mean that you need to control the volume with the toggle, which is right here. The toggle is pretty spacious, as well as the navigations keys surrounding it. Also the numbers and the letters and the keys are tiny, so if you have visual impairments, you definitely want to take this phone and look at it first to make sure you can see everything. Display is very bright, very colorful, really rich color resolution, graphics, photos, everything really looked great. So very much like the display in that sense. Here on the back there is a camera lens, and the flash, small speaker. Inside you'll find a music player, you'll find a two megapixel camera, Bluetooth, organizer features, speaker phone, voice commands. So very solid mid-range feature set. It does support 3G UMTS networks that will work in North America or in Europe. [ background music ] So very serviceable phone, and one unlocked model. Nokia 6500 Classic Review
The good: The Nokia 6500 Classic has a functional feature set, a brilliant display, and good call quality. Its design is simple and sturdy.
The bad: The Nokia 6500 Classic's keypad is rather cramped and it lacks a dedicated volume control. Also, its photo quality is just average.
The bottom line: The Nokia 6500 Classic is a simple phone for making calls, and it adds a couple of extra features, to boot. And for an unlocked handset, it's quite affordable.
