>> I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we're going to take a first look at the Nokia 2610. This is a new phone for Cingular AT&T service. Nokia made its name with very simple candy bar phones like this but it's actually been a long time since we've seen one. The past few months we've been concentrating a lot of Nokia's high end handsets. So it's nice to see the company return to its roots just a little bit. Design is very basic, a very simple form factor for the candy bar, simple navigation buttons and controls. Actually no buttons at all on the sides, which is a little disappointing in some sense. We liked that side mounted volume control because that does mean that when you're one the phone, it means that you have to remove it, adjust the volume with the toggle and then put your phone back up. So just not the most convenient arrangement. Overall though black color is nice, phone is pretty compact for candy bar. It's also pretty light. The display isn't the highest resolution, still it's pretty colorful and perfectly fine for a phone at this caliber. It's great for going through the easy menus. Photos and graphics may not look so great. Also the plastic sheet covering the display does tend to attract a fair amount of prints and smudges so just want to be careful of that. Navigation controls have a nice design. Toggle is very big. Also the OK button in the center is huge and it's raised very much above the [unclear] of the phone so it's easy to dial by feel. It has a couple of soft case as well even though they blend into the black of the design. You do have Talk and End keys. The End key is actually the Power key as well. A lot of times Nokia tends to put their dedicated Power key on the top. So this is a trend we're starting to notice a little more. Keypad buttons are a good size. They have a little bit of a cheap plastic feeling but they'll be fine for most uses. The numbers on the keys can be a little small for some users. So if [unclear] this phone and you have some visual impairments you'll want to pick it up and take it for a test drive first. So again, this is a very simple phone, very simple features just like messaging and basically all kinds of features, just phone for making calls.
