>> Jeff: Hey everyone I'm Jeff Bakalar for CNET.com today we have a first look of the brand new Nintendo DSI. Now the DSI is the second refreshed of the DS portable and this time around there aren't too many cosmetic upgrades aside from the location of the power button and the removal of the volume slider, there are, however, a lot of feature enhancements. Most notable are the 2.3 megapixel cameras one on the front of the device, one when you open it up. Also the screen is a bit brighter and the size of the two screens has been bumped up a little bit. Also overall the device is a bit thinner than the original, there's also a new set of LED notifications located on the hinge instead of the single LED light we saw on the DS light. Now the DSI's new online store is called the Nintendo DSI Shop and it'll allow you to download games to the device's internal 256MB of storage or to an SD card. Also exclusive to the DSI are a series of media players you can record and edit audio and photos you've recorded yourself even draw on any pictures you've taken and share them with your friends. You can also listen to music with the SD card on the side here. Nintendo has also removed a feature or two there's no more Gameboy Advance slot so if you're a big fan of Gameboy Advance games you're not gonna be able to play those on the new DSI. Now the DSI goes on sale April 5th for $170.00, it's available in either black or blue and we'd imagine Nintendo will eventually release new colors as time goes by. The good: Adds two larger screens; two 0.3-megapixel cameras; a bit thinner than the DS Lite; exclusive access to the DSi Shop for downloadable games and applications.
The bad: No longer supports Game Boy Advance games; lower battery life than its predecessor; Internet security settings are buried and confusing.
The bottom line: While not all previous DS owners should upgrade, the DSi is an ambitious and solidly designed portable gaming system.
