Nikon Coolpix S8200 Video Transcript
Hey, there. I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor with CNET and this is a look at the Nikon Coolpix s8200. It replaces the S8100 which was one of my favorite compact megazooms because of its easy views excellent features and performance and its price. All that continues with the S8200 but you get a wider longer lens starting at ultra wide angle 25 millimeters and zooming out to 350 millimeters and megapixel (bum?) from 12 to 16. The design is pretty much the same too which for the most part is good. But the flash placement is right where most people will rest the left fingers. Plus for some reason, Nikon photo would be cool if it popped up and couldn't be put back down until you shut off the camera. The shooting modes and controls are geared for snap shooters too with no direct control over (shutter?) speed in capture and no (??) capture. Instead, you get a solid scene recognition auto mode, a bunch of scene modes and continue shooting options, some special color effects if you feel like getting creative and a pet portrait mode that will focus on a dog or (cat?) face and fire out 3 shots without even having to touch the shutter release. The photo quality is generally very good but the extra resolution doesn't really help out here. However, it still turns out nice photos even printed at larger sizes. But more of the concern in photo quality for me was the shooting performance. The camera can be pretty quick but it occasionally struggles to focus especially once the lens is extended. So over all maybe not as good as the S8100 but still a very good package for the money. I'm Josh Goldman and that's the Nikon S8200.

When the 5400 is good, it's very, very good. It's just missing a few features that enthusiasts crave.
A good, though not outstanding, compact camera, the Nikon Coolpix S600 is hindered by some shortcomings in its performance and operation.
The Nikon Coolpix L110 definitely offers a lot for the money, but it still has the photos and shooting performance of an entry-level point-and-shoot.
The Nikon Coolpix S200 digital camera looks pretty and will fit almost anywhere, but it just doesn't take very good photos.
Nikon Coolpix S8200 (Black) Review
The good: The Nikon Coolpix S8200 is easy to use, has an excellent feature set for its price, and has a lot of fun shooting options to experiment with.
The bad: The S8200's autofocus can be slow at times, its flash is poorly placed, and its photo quality isn't for everybody.
The bottom line: The Nikon Coolpix S8200 might not be as easy to recommend as its predecessor, the S8100, but it's still a very good compact megazoom for the money.
