Nikon CoolPix S1000pj Video Transcript

>> Josh: Hi, I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor for CNET Reviews and this is the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj. It's a first of its kind compact camera because it features an ultra small built-in projector in front. First, a bit about the rest of the camera, it's a 12 megapixel model with a 5X optical zoom and a 28 millimeter wide angel lens and on back is a 2.7 inch LCD. Shooting features are standard point and shoot fair with a good amount of scene modes, auto scene recognition and a basic VGA movie mode. All in all it looks and performs like an average compact camera with image quality dropping off significantly above ISO 400 and shooting speeds suited to portraits and landscapes, all of which can be had for about $200.00 from Nikon or other vendors. What bumps the S1000pj's cost up is that projector, which can shine your photos on a wall or wherever up to 32 by 24 inches in size. The projector starts up at the press of a button on top and this slider lets you fine tune focus. You can easily start up a slide show and add transition affects or music. Plus Nikon includes a little stand to angle the camera up a bit and a remote control that could be used for both playback and shooting. It's certainly a cool and novel design and it works really well. However, the rest of the camera is nothing special and there's definitely a price premium for the whole package. So if you don't want or need to give impromptu slide shows you may want to pass. I'm Josh Goldman and that's the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj. ^M00:01:40 [ Music ]

Nikon CoolPix S1000pj (Black) Review

The good: Compact, attractive body with a projector built into the front for instant slideshows up to 40 inches in size.

The bad: Photo quality, shooting performance, and features are all that of a less expensive camera.

The bottom line: The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is all about the built-in projector; if you don't need it, you don't need this camera.
