The next next big thing is almost here? Video Transcript

KARYNE: Hey, Im Karyne Levy EMILY: And I'm Emily Dreyfuss. And this is a very special episode where we revisit how we each bet on iPhone 5 rumors, tally up scores and find out who gets to gloat. KARYNE: The really interesting thing is that there weren't any surprises -- every new feature had been leaked and discussed on this show. So let's take a look at the scorecard and see how we voted. EMILY: And dont forget that this is your scorecard too. Follow along to see how well you did voting with us over the past few months KARYNE: First up, we voted on whether the iPhone would have a bigger screen. For some reason, I voted against this but Emily, always with her finger on the pulse of what people want, voted "yay" -- and so did 89 percent of the people who voted in the poll! EMILY: We both guessed correctly that the iPhone 5 would have a smaller dock connector. And so did 87 percent of you. KARYNE: You're missing something very important. EMILY: OK fine, you actually won the Internet that day, saying that the adapter would cost around $30 , which is exactly the price. I was way off and said Apple would screw us and charge $70. Luckily I was wrong, but so were the naive 47-percent of you who thought it would be basically free. EMILY: NFC? Didn't happen. But 66 percent of you thought that it would. KARYNE: The Nano-SIM did happen, and 70 percent of you saw that coming! You guys are good. EMILY: We, and the rest of the world, believed it would be announced on September 12th. It was, but I had predicted that it would be available the same day. Oops. The rumor that said wed have to wait 9 days was actually spot on. KARYNE: I voted that it'd be called the iPhone 5 (along with 46 percent of the poll voters). Sorry, people who voted for iPhone 6. Or new iPhone. Not this time. EMILY: We still have a Humiliation Day riding on the iPad Mini. KARYNE: We bet that it would be released in September, October... EMILY: or NEVER. So stay tuned for a possible October iPad event so we can finally settle that score. KARYNE: Let's switch gears and take out some fresh rumors from the oven: according to The Wall Street Journal, Apple is in talks with record companies to license music for a custom music service that would create "virtual" music stations based on a song or artist of choice. So basically, a Pandora rival. And Android users would be cut off from the service. Zing! EMILY: Apple bought music-streaming site Lala.com in 2009 for a whopping $80 million, so maybe this is Apple finally putting that service to work? EMILY: Apple bought music-streaming site Lala.com in 2009 for a whopping $80 million, so maybe this is Apple finally putting that service to work? KARYNE: The crazy part (or maybe NOT so crazy part) is that following the news of Apple's alleged Pandora competitor, Pandora stock shares took a nosedive: a 17 percent drop! So whaddya think? EMILY: Lay off of my favorite service on earth, Apple. I may be getting an iphone, but I LOVE Pandora. Just bc I dont want You messing with it, Im going to say Apple wont do this to me. To me personally. KARYNE: I think this will happen -- Pandora is the one company Apple hasn't yet tried to murder. EMILY: For our next rumor: the Internet was abuzz this week with news that Samsung might be announcing the Galaxy S4 at Mobile World Congress in February, and will be released a month later. The Korea Times learned this information from an anonymous Samsung official. Seems fishy, right? KARYNE: Totally fishy. Also, drink to an anonymous source! EMILY: Then other unnamed officials jumped into the mix, saying that the new device would be 5 inches, would have LTE support, a quad-core chip, and a high-def display. KARYNE: I think it would be awesome, but I also think it's a pipe dream -- mostly because Samsung went on the record of note -- Twitter -- to say that the rumor simply isn't true. EMILY: What do you guys think? Don't forget to vote! We're going to go ask the people of San Francisco what they think... EMILY: Our comment of the week comes from... KARYNE: Thats our show everyone, share your rumors at rumorhasit@cnet.com or call us at 1-800-750-CNET. And tweet us! EMILY: Tune in next week for more tech rumors.
