The newest in 3D printing Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Rich Brown for CNET. We're here at CES 2013 and this is the 3D Systems' Cube 3D printer. So this is the new version of the 3D printer they announced last year. This one comes with a brand new plate design. So while the previous version ran] hot in order to keep the object adhere to the plate, this one is cool, which means it's actually a little safer for kids. There's a new design with the platform as well. That means you don't have to level it anymore. There's a lot of things going on here so this where the plastic filament goes in. It's a cartridge- goes down through this extruder here and it prints out the object that you have sent to from a computer. So while the older model used just ABS plastic, this one you can use ABS and PLA. It's a different kind of material but it gives you some nice flexibility depending on what you want to make. The new model is also a little bit quieter when it prints. It's also faster and more accurate. The 3D Systems has some other cool stuff going on here. They have a new recycling program in place where you can send both the filament and the cartridge back, and they will recycle both of those parts. [unk] actual address was kind of an ongoing concern with 3D printers and that you're making plastic. You're putting a lot of new, kind of junk out in the world so it's nice to be able to address that and 3D Systems seems to have done that. So this unit will cost $12.99. Each cartridge costs about 50 bucks. 3D Systems says it's taking orders right now and it's gonna ship out January 21st. I'm Rich Brown. This is the 3D Systems' Cube 3D printer.
