>> Hi, I'm Michele Thatcher, senior associate editor for CNET.com. And this is the HP Pavilion DVD 9000D. As you can tell, this is quite a large laptop. It's HPs flagship desktop replacement. And like all the other Pavilions it's gotten this nice redesign with this slick black lid and a silver interior. Now you'll notice that for desktop replacement, this is actually pretty thin and rather light. I definitely wouldn't want to carry it around everyday, but among other desktop replacement laptops, this is among the thinnest and lightest. I would like the resolution to be a little bit finer, but I think for most home use and most movie watching its going to be just fine. There are also handy media controls above the keyboard that have the really neat glow to them so that you can control disk playback and volume. The only complaint that I have with these is that when you press them, they do make a little audible sound. So when you're watching a movie and you just want to crank up the volume, that's a little distracting. Speaking of watching movies, this is one of the first laptops we've seen that has a built in HD DVD drive. And I definitely took that for a test drive with many, many movies. And can say that the display combined with this drive makes for really great movie watching experience. Also good for watching movies with a friend, this laptop has two headphone jacks. And one of them supports SPDIF audio output. That's the computer features. This laptop, of course a desktop replacement, has an amply sized keyboard and actually also a 10 key number pad which is handy for typing in a lot of number. The touch pad is a little bit cramped for this size of a laptop, but still very useable. And it has one of our absolute favorite features which is a touchpad on off button. So if you want to use an external mouse, you can just turn off this touch pad and that way you don't displace the cursor while you're typing. Otherwise you've got pretty much every port and connection that you'll need. And there's also this built in web cam above the display for video conferencing. I'm Michele Thatcher and this is the HP Pavilion DV 9000D. ^M00:02:01 [ Music ]
