>> You asked for it, and now we have it. Hello, this is Doug at CNET.com. And I have with me today the router that so many of you have emailed me to ask about in the last couple of months. The Net Gear Range Max, dual band, wireless and gigabyte router, WNDR 3700. And I hope you happy with the name as it's took me quite a while to learn how to say that smoothly. Anyhow, first introduced at CAS 2009, this router took a few months longer than expected to ship. And now, here it is, shiny and outstanding. This is also the first feature of the device. It come with a detachable base for the vertical position. It can also of course lay flat and it's also [inaudible]. Like most Net Gear Range Max routers, the WNDR 3700 is very slick with a black chassis that happens to be a fingerprint magnet. On the front, there's an array of color changing LED lights that show what's going on with the Internet connection, the wifi and the activities of the network ports. There's also a button that quickly turned wifi on or off and another one for the wifi port set up feature that allows for conveniently connecting a client to the wireless network. On the back you can find four LAN ports for the Wi connection and one WAN port for the Internet connection. And all of these ports are gigabyte. There's also a USB port here to connect an external hard drive to the router. Now, this is a very advanced router for three reasons. First, it's a true dual band router, meaning it can operate simultaneously in both 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz frequencies. By being dual band, the router support virtually any existing wireless client. Secondly, when coupled with an external hard drive, the router is also a network storage device. It's USB port can even power compact external hard drives. It support both FAT32 and NTFS file system, meaning you can just plug an existing hard drive with data already on it into the router and share that with the rest of the network. Very convenient. The third reason is this is a router with a lot of little cool features. First of all it come with a very intuitive web interface, making working with it a pleasant experience. It has guest networking that allows for creating additional wireless network for guests. A great feature is going to free Internet access while keeping your local resources secure. And last but not least, the router comes with a traffic meter that helps you keep tabs and manage the bandwidth of the Internet. In [inaudible] testing, the router also showed overall decent performance. So not perfect.
