>> Hi everyone this is Eric Franklin from cnet.com and today we're looking at the NEC Multisync EA 221WM. The display comes with a circular foot stand and when we adjusted the panel height to its lowest, we saw only minimal wobbling when we knocked it from the sides. However, with a panel height extended to its fullest, the wobbling got noticeably more violent. The panel also pivots to the left 90 degrees, swivels 360 degrees around and tilts back about 25 degrees. The stand can be removed and the display mounted Visa style though you have to supply your own mount in order to do so. NEC includes DVI and VGS connection options, four USB downstream ports as well as one USB upstream ports. There are also two downward facing speakers and a headphone jack built in. The OSD includes three buttons and one joy stick for navigation. The joystick has four directions allowing you to cycle through selections with relative ease. Also there's an eco mode that captures the brightness at 60% when turned on. Games look great running at 6080 by 1050. Audio tests prove the sound from the built-in speakers lacks bass, but the maximum volume can easily be reached without any noticeable distortion. In our power consumption test, the NEC drew a significant 39.61 watts in its default on, and 24.88 watts in its eco mode. This compared with a Dell P2210's lower 20.14 watts. On the other hand, if solid performance in a feature-rich package is what you're after, the NEC will suit you nicely. Once again this is Eric Franklin and this has been the first look at the NEC Multisync EA221WM.

The Samsung SyncMaster 940BF delivers a clear, vivid picture for games and DVDs, but overall we found it average; other monitors offer more adjustability and features and better performance for less.
The 19-inch Samsung SyncMaster 953BW has good performance and a low price, but its competitors one-up it on both counts.
Flexible and feature-rich it is not, but the Samsung SyncMaster 915N is a sturdy 19-inch analog LCD with a fast pixel-response rate, bright colors, and a fair price.

The good: The NEC MultiSync EA221WM has full, four-way ergonomic support, good movie and game performance, and multiple USB ports. Also, it has a great lower-viewing angle and built-in speakers with a headphone jack.
The bad: The NEC MultiSync EA221WM has apparent backlight bleeding, no HDMI, and a fairly high asking price.
The bottom line: The NEC MultiSync EA221WM has a host of features and good overall performance for a fairly high price.
