>> Hi, this is Eric Franklin from www.cnet.com.

>> And today we're looking at the NEC AccuSync LCD 22WMGX. Big name, relatively small monitor, it's a 22 incher. And as you can see, the bezel on the left and right size of the screen are only about half an inch wide, where typically the screens of this size have bezels that are at least an inch and a half. The foot stand is a lot more lot circular and less wide then we're use to. But when either not from the front or the side, it doesn't get too wobbly. The screen itself is glossy, but it's not too reflective, which we like. But it still attracts fingerprints, as you may be able to tell. This is one of the most feature rich 22 inches we've yet seen. In addition to VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports, it also comes with a component connection, and a digital audio port. Unfortunately, NEC does not provide a component cable with the monitor. The head of the screen is not adjustable, and it doesn't pivoted or rotate, but the screen does tilt back about thirty degrees. The OSD provides six different preset options. The rest of the options in the OSD are pretty standard fare, except for two sections, the Color boost and the Picture boost. These are two features that are used to enhance and manipulate the color, the saturation, the hue on either the entire screen, or in the case of the Picture Boost, in just a specific portion of the screen. The picture boost feature is kind of a way to test ultra settings before you actually go with them. DVD playback was good, but we noticed that the color was a bit washed out. We tried to adjust this with the color options, but we were never quite satisfied with it. The built in speaker volume was disappointingly low, even when cranked to 100, the sound whether from music or movies was muffled. For a 22-inch display, the NEC packs on a ton of features for its three hundred dollar price tag. The sacrifice is that the monitor displays very shallow colors. The NEC makes a better choice for photographers on a budget or anyone looking for a wide variety of features. But consider other choices like the Dell 2208WFP if superior performance is your goal.

>> Once again this is Eric Franklin, and this has been the first look at the NEC AccuSync LCD22WMGX. ^M00:02:05 [ Music ]

NEC AccuSync LCD22WMGX (22-inch) Review

The good: Lightweight and slender design; small footprint; includes component and digital audio connection in addition to VGA, DVI, and HDMI; useful photo viewing feature.

The bad: Shallow black level and color depth; Dynamic Contrast Ratio feature is too distracting while watching movies; no screen rotation or height adjustment.

The bottom line: This 22-inch monitor packs on the features, including full HD video support and specialized picture and color enhancements. If you're looking for a great display to view photos, look no further.
