>> [ music ] ^m00:00:07 Welcome back to Crossfade TV where each week we pick our favorite artist from our website, music dot download dot com. I'm Kurt Wolfe and this week my pick is the new album Lucky from the Indie pop band Nada Surf. [ music ] ^m00:00:21 The band's been around longer than you might think; in fact they had a huge hit in the 1990's with a song Popular. But forget about that song because in the recent albums like The Weight is a Gift and now Lucky, they're making the best music of their career. Take a listen to this song we have on the site, "See These Bones". [ music ] ^m00:00:43 Like big star Spoon, this is pop music for jaded indie rock fans. The melodies are catchy and bright and full of hooks, but the songs are still moody and dense. We have 3 songs for free download on the site. Give a listen and see if you can't stop playing them.
>> Hey this is Peter Gavin and my pick this week is Tommy Guerrero. He has a new album out called Return of the Bastard. [ music ] ^m00:01:06 He used to be known as a skateboarder who played guitar on the side but after a decade of releasing solo albums, he's better known as a musician today. His debut album is called Loose Screws and Bastard Blues. So this new one is a follow up to that with some new songs in that style; but with better production quality and ten years of experience under his belt. [ music ] ^m00:01:29 We just interviewed Tommy here at CNET and he played us some tunes, so be sure to check out that podcast at studio C dot CNET dot com. We also have some new joints from his album so just search for Tommy Guerrero.
>> Hey this is Mike Tao and my pick for this week is Nicolay and Kay's concept album Timeline on Nicolay Music. [ music ] ^m00:01:51 Now lyrically musically, Timeline evolves from birth to death to rebirth over the course of 12 tracks. You got Nicolay's soulful hip hop production mixed with Kay's native tongue like flows and they're a perfect fit, especially on tracks like Tie Dies and Stop My Way. [ music ] ^m00:02:09 The heads probably remember Nicolay from his work with Little Brother and Foreign Exchange and Kay's work with Tribe Called Quest, Oh No, and SA-RA and my homie the R. [ music ] ^m00:02:26 If this is the vibe you're checking for, download the Timeline sampler on our sight, then go out to your local Mom and Pop stores and buy the CD. [ music ]
