Myspace gets a new face Video Transcript

Don't call Myspace a dead space just yet. I'm Bridget Carey and this is your CNET update. Myspace is getting a completely new look the falling king of social media has a video teaser of what the sites relaunch will look like and it's focused around displaying your photos, videos and music in this horizontal scrolling profile. From the video, it's also clear that opposing your other social media content like Twitter post, it looks like a mash-up between Pintress and Microsoft Windows 8 in your face. Music is obviously still a major part of the site. This is an area to create plateless mixes and those mixes can also have photos. So for example, you could have a party plateless together with the party photos. There was also an area to discover trending topics and upcoming concerts. Now, all Myspace has to do is compete with a 955,000 users on Facebook and still some attention away from music streaming services like Spotify, maybe will get a shakeup and additional music space out of this rebirth. If you wanted to endorse a friend on LinkedIn you were too lazy to write a recommendation, there's now the option to endorse someone's skill set with one click. You can endorse his skill just this easily as you click Like on a Facebook post, but sometimes those key words don't make much sense for endorsements and you get end up looking foolish. I was connected to someone who worked at a newspaper and asked me if I endorse him for knowing about newspaper. Well, endorsing has no meaning in a case like that and head shop pops up next to any skill words you endorse, which also looks silly if your floating head is all alone endorsing just as a skill or two. That just discourages you from doing it at all, but it will be interesting to see how much value is put on endorsements as the feature expands. For anyone using Apple's iOS 6 upgrade, the only way to get Google Maps is to go on the website. Google Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt told reports that Google has not submitted a standalone Google Maps app to Apple. Of course, it doesn't mean it will never come. Apple has said its maps will get better as more people use it and if you come across wrong information like they're being too flatiron buildings in New York, which there are not. Then you can report a problem on the app. Barnes & Noble is coming out with each own digital video streaming service to compete with Amazon. It's called NOOK video and it lets users buy and rent movies and television shows launching sometime this fall. It will have content from some major studios and there will be apps for Smartphones and TVs to view purchased videos. It's widely expected that Barnes & Nobel will also avail a new version of the NOOK to compete with Amazon's latest Kindle Fire tablets. That's your tech news update for today, but we have more details on these stories at the blogs cnet.com/update. For more studios in New York, I'm Bridget Carey.
