>> Hi, I'm Ken German [assumed spelling], Senior Editor here at www.cnet.com. Today we're gonna take a first look at the Motorola U9. Unlike the Pebble U6, it doesn't have that soft touch material all over the phone; it's just here on the back. On the front we have a glossy service. Did like the overall look. The external display is hidden behind the front face, so when the back lighting is off you can't see it at all, but a flick of that switch will activate it again. It's full color, so it'll show photo caller ID. It will work as a view finder for the camera, that's right there. The U9 doesn't have the mechanism that the Pebble had where you could push the phone down like that and it would open automatically, so it does have a traditional hinge design. You can see that the front face is a little unique and that it actually opens and then rests behind the rear face. Inside, the internal space -- pretty nice -- graphics, looks great, photo's looks good, it has a lot of color to it. Text [inaudible] are a little small you can't change it, so if you have some visual impairments you might want to test this phone before buying. Menus are fine, show a little bit of changes from the standard Moto design. Still hoping that Moto gets in and really revamps its mini systems soon though, but, otherwise, pretty easy to use. Keypad is the tiniest bit slippery, so you might want to give this a test drive before buying as well. Camera's a 2 mega pixel -- photo quality wasn't great. This really isn't a phone you'd buy for the camera. Music player's fine though, has a lot of features, quality's okay. Call quality's pretty good, and does offer a few -- a decent selection of features as well. I'm Ken German and this is the Motorola U9. ^M00:01:25 [ Music ]

Motorola U9 - pink (Unlocked) Review
The good: The Motorola U9 offers an attractive design, a decent music player with stereo Bluetooth, and an appealing display.
The bad: The Motorola U9's controls are flat and slippery and its memory card is in an inconvenient location. Its menus can be sluggish and its photo quality is poor.
The bottom line: The Motorola U9 is a mostly reliable music phone with an eye-catching design. We had a few complaints, but it makes up for its deficiencies with good call quality.
