>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNet.com. Today we're going to take a first look at the Motorola Razr2 V9M for Alltel. The Alltel version does use the dark gray and overall I think that's the most boring color that you can find on the Razr2s. But overall it has the same shape, nice improvement over the original Razr. Again there's none of that double chin here it's been shaved down a little bit. The phone is a lot slimmer, the hinge has a better design. So really an attractive phone overall, much better than the original Razr. One of the main attractions is that external display. It's very big, very bright and colorful. It does have those external controls down here at the bottom. Those are very useful because they do have the tactile feedback. So you press it, you can give a little bit of the buzz on your fingers so you know it's there. Each carrier carrying the Razr2 was allowed to customize these buttons down here and Alltel was the only one to actually put the calls list which is a really useful thing. So you can press that button, get the list of your last calls, scroll down and then make a call while the phone is closed using the speakerphone. The other controls activate the music player and also the messaging list. And so, also useful, you can see your text messages without opening the phone. Here on the side we have a volume rocker that is tactile feedback as well, Motorola Smart Key and on the side we have a button for the voice recorder. Open up the phone, inside, very similar to all the other Razr2s.You do have this really nice internal display. Very bright and colorful. Alltel did choose Motorola's standard manual interface, so it's different from all the other carriers that kinda went with their own thing. That does mean that the interface is a little quicker than some of the real flash heavy and animation heavy interfaces like on the Sprint and Verizon versions. But it is a little boring. Never been a fan of Motorola's interface. I don't like how things are organized. The navigation keypad is very big. It is flat with the surface of the phone, but it is big enough to have, make it easy to use. Keypad buttons are also flat with the surface of the phone. There is a bit of the tactile ridge between the individual rows, the actual numbers are a little bit tactile as well. The phone does have most of the features that you'd expect on a Razr2. It has Bluetooth, speakerphone, it has e video support. I did notice though that the web browser is just a [unclear] version, so it's just a little slow in some cases. I'm Kent German and this is the Motorola Razr2 v9m for Alltel. ^M00:02:06 [ music ]
