>> Kent German: Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET dot com. Today we'll take a first look at the Motorola Krave ZN4. This is a new phone for Verizon Wireless service. Gotta tell ya - this phone is pretty cool. I think it's innovative, I think it's user friendly, and I think it performs well and it offers a lot of features. You might recognize the design; it's based on the Motorola MING which came out a couple years ago. Now the major difference between the Krave and the MING is in the transparent cover, does a couple things - delivers audio to the speaker which is right here and that speaker works when you have the phone open in normal mode, and when it's closed the speaker faces out to the speaker phone. But also this cover acts as a secondary touch service. So what that means is when this display is on, they're four icons here at the top in this shortcut bar, there's music, there's pictures, there's your VCAST TV and your VC Navigator. Without opening the cover you can actually press on one of these, and that corresponding feature will start up. So it's pretty cool! I did like to be able to access those four features without opening a phone. Once you open the cover, inside display is very bright, very colorful, touch interface is very responsive, very accurate, liked it better than the Glide, liked it even better than the Samsung Instinct. Tapping on the middle there will bring down the main menu. This offers 12 icons here, you can instantly access features with just a couple taps. If you open the photo application, you can actually do a slide show which is kind of neat. You can also rest the phone on a site to watch VCAST mobile TV and the VCAST streaming video. It does have an accelerometer, things like easy navigator, things like the web browser; you can rotate the phone and see it in landscape and portrait mode. Also the music player has something that's kind of cool but it looks a little like the iPhone's cover flow interface, where you have a bunch of album art sitting side by side. The only thing though is though, on this phone you have to tap, you can't swipe your finger but still it's nice. The phone does come with a 2 MEG pixel camera, little disappointed though that it didn't offer a lot of features; you can zoom in but you can't really change the resolution or do anything like that. There is EZ navigator; there is the VCAST mobile TV. Unfortunately we can't use it here in the Bay area. Another thing the phone has, it does have Verizon's visual voicemail system, also costs extra which is kind of disappointing. Sprint has added that just to some of their devices now. There's stereo Bluetooth, there's streaming video, there's email, no Wi-Fi. On the whole though like I said, this is an innovative, it's user friendly, has a lot of features, and it performs well. Call quality was great, speaker phone quality was fine, streaming video's quality was fine as well. I'm Kent German and this is the Motorola Krave ZN4. [ music ]
