I'm Nicole Lee, senior associate editor for CNET.com and this is a First Look at the Motorola i412 for Boost Mobile. It is a very simple, basic flip phone for Boost Mobile. On the front here is a very simple external monochrome LCD. Underneath the display is a speakerphone key as well as a smart key that toggles through the recent calls list. Above the display is a VGA camera lens. Open the phone and you get both the main display as well as the full number keypad. The display, as you can see here, is not the best we've seen. The graphics seemed very lackluster and it's overall quite grainy. The menu interface of the phone is also not that good. You have to paginate through several pages to get to the application you want. Underneath the display, you do get the usual navigation array. They include the two soft keys here. Underneath that, you do get the number keypad here. As you can see, it is quite roomy and each key is raised above the surface for easy texting and dialing. As far as features go, as you might expect, the phone has very basic features. They include the usual text and multimedia messaging, of course. Aside from that, not too many other features, very simple web browser. You do get basic Java app support with e-mail and instant messaging, but that's about it. The Motorola i412 is very affordable, however. It's only $70 for Boost Mobile without a contract. I'm Nicole Lee, this has been the First Look at the Motorola i412.

UTStarcom Super Slice (Virgin Mobile)
The UTStarcom Super Slice is a decent basic camera phone for Virgin Mobile, and its low price makes it one of the more affordable prepaid Bluetooth handsets on the market.

The good: The Motorola i412 is a basic flip phone with a roomy keypad. Features include push-to-talk iDEN support, Bluetooth, and text and multimedia messaging. Call quality is great.
The bad: The Motorola i412 has only a VGA camera, the screen is lackluster, and the menu interface is poor.
The bottom line: If you can live with its unimpressive design and features, the Motorola i412 does offer great call quality at an affordable price for the prepaid market.
