Motorola i335 (Nextel) Video Transcript

>> Hi I'm Kent German Senior Editor here at CNET dot com. Today I give a first look at the Motorola I335. This is a new phone for Nextel service. When Nextel and Sprint had definitely merged, this phone is a little unusual because it is the first phone that we've seen in awhile, about a year and a half, to run on Nextel's iDEN network for making calls. It's got a real strong, durable body, really protective rubber coating on the keys, feels very solid in the hand, has a nice feel. Little bit on the weighty side but that's not very unusual for Nextel phones. But has a little bit of modern styling though, it is the first Nextel phone we've seen to actually be really thin so it's only half an inch thick but even though it's thin, it doesn't have that real fragile feeling that a lot of thin phones have. Really likes the keypad actually, great rubberized feel, the keys are very tactile, large numbers on the keys, it's got a great back lighting. Navigation arrays also really nice, very easy to use. Only complaint was these directional keys and the toggle, just the tiniest bit thin, if you use this part of your finger you can press them but you don't always know that you're pressing them, so I can use my fingernail which felts a little nicer at least as far as pressing the button make sure it was pressed, but using your fingernail can get a little tedious over time so that would be my only complaint. But otherwise really nice. Nextel typically doesn't spend a whole lot of time making really vibrant displays. This display is 65,000 colors so, and you can tell it is just a little low resolution, not very crisp and graphics don't look really great and game play wasn't the greatest, but this is a Nextel phone so most of Nextel people just really aren't gonna care about that. Does have direct connect, direct talk, group connect, all of those services that Nextel's done a good job on. Here on this side you have a volume rocker and a Nextel push to talk button, and a couple of ports, there is a mini USB port, and a 2 point 5 millimeter headset jack. Phone has no camera, just really built for making calls and making push to talk calls. Overall nice solid feel, very nice cell. I'm Kent German and this is the Motorola I335. [ music ]
