Most popular tech products Video Transcript

As we round the corner into November, we feel the reflective tone of fall and all the peaceful contemplation that the close of another year in our lives suggests, so naturally our minds turn to (SCRATCH)...all the tech stuff were gonna buy. Im Brian Cooley with the Top 5 Tech Products according to what youre seeking out on CNET as of end of October, 2011, heading into Holiday Buying Season. #5 is maybe in the list because so many people just wanted to see what the hell it is: The Motorola Droid RAZR. Yes, like you, my minds eye imagined some sort of Androidian re-do of the iconic Razr flip phone but with ample screen and Android. No, its just a another slab phone but one thats a mere a quarter inch thin. So light youll think its a non-functioning demo unit. And since its Kevlar enforces, great for the person on your list list you lives in a crappy neighborhood. And this it has a stainless steel frame so it wont snap in two when you slam it on the table each time it Andriod OS spontaneously reboots. #4 is another Droid: The Bionic. Im almost surprised this isnt #1. I dont think people have asked me about a pending new product more than this one. When it debuted in prototype form way back in January it ushered in the new class of what we now call superphones. Our review gave it an EC and says it best: The Bionic is everything you want from a high end smartphone. But it also costs a class leading $250 and is the size of a snowshoe. #3 is ANOTHER smartphone -- the Samsung Galaxy S II. Samsungs Galaxy line is what has powered them to overtake Apple recently as the top maker of smartphones. This one, like the Bionic, work on 4G networks, which in itself is a huge area of interest for smartphone shoppers on CNET lately. And, like the Bionic, it got a CNET EC and a lot of drool on its screen. #2 continues the smartphone rout -- which reminds us why smartphones outsell computers now -- with Apples iPhone 4S. There was huge interest and pent up demand for whatever would follow iPhone 4 and once everyone got over their biterness rage that it wasnt an iPhone 5, Apple moved like 4 million in opening weekend. Add in the fact that the 4S brought iPhone to a new carrier with some 50 million customers who can now consider getting an iPhone. Before I get us to the #1 most popular piece of gear on CNET over the month of October 2011, lets look at the hottest *categories* youre all lathered up for -- believe it or not, it aint just smartphones: OK, with that #1 in mind, the #1 most popular piece of tech gear on CNET in October was...NOT a smartphone! It was a product you cant even buy yet: The Amazon Kindle Fire. The Fire is Amazons $200 answer to the iPad that isnt an answer to the iPad: Actually, expect it to open up tablets to a new and separate market that iPad doesnt speak to with a lower price, smaller size, simpler array of features and built Amazon services that have never had their own device before. And most importantly: $200. The Fire hits mid November, check our CNET Review for the word on whether it will be the 2nd tablet to get any traction with users like you. Ive got all your links to these products and a bunch of fresh top 5 lists like this one at top5.cnet.com. Check it out and thanks for watching.
