If you need any evidence that smartphones are becoming the master device of everyone's your digital life, this edition of CNET Top 5 is gonna' be it. I'm B.C. with the Top 5 most popular products on CNET for July 2010. #5: Samsung Captivate. Yep, AT&T does offer something other than the iPhone. This is their best Android offering, with an amazing 4" AMOLED display and great call quality. Wait, really? Unfortunately, AT&T's been out drinking with Apple too many times and learned the "overcontrol" thing: No sideloading of apps, and no flash for the camera. We still think its a great iPhone alt in a world that thinks there are none. #4 Evo 4G on Sprint. You know, the first 4G phone, if 4G is lit up in your area. You're still gonna pay a $10 4G surcharge whether it is or not, and that irks us. This guy is also a mobile hotspot and has an almost too big 4.3" display and captures HD video. Oh, and a kickstand. #3 Droid Incredible. That's a ballsy name, but luckily for VZW they didn't end up looking stupid: The Incredible is. And a CNET EC. The Sense UI over Android 2.1, a fast processor over Verizon's fast network, 8 MP camera, and a 3.7" screen size that keeps things pocketable. But remember this is VZW so no voice and data at the same time. #2 iPhone 4. Almost as much a software story as it is hardware, iOS is the one to beat, with scads of improvements now that it has a 4 on it. The handset doesn't hurt with it killer Retina display, dual cameras, HD video capture and edit. But there is that thing with the antenna and the network it connects to. BTW, the most pop product on CNET lately that *isn't* a smartphone? You'd have to scroll down to #7 for the Canon PowerShot S90, a great compact camera for advanced amateurs -- folks who don't take all their pictures with a smartphone. OK, now itÕs time to reveal our #1 most popular product on CNET for July 2010, the one that told the iPhone 4 to go take a seat over there and be quiet please...It's the Droid X. A big boy, with a 4.3" display, great multimedia, another 8 MP camera and Verizon. No front facing cam, though, and we wish it ran the Sense UI instead of Motoblur. But you're all over it and that's what we're celebrating here today. Those are the products that have lying awake at night.
